CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Radford Field Hockey was upended at No. 2 North Carolina, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon from Francis E. Henry Stadium.
The Tar Heels, who received goals from seven different players, found paydirt with three scores in the first 13:02 and posted four more in the second half to improve to 11-1, while the Highlanders fell to 5-7.
Radford did register four shots, two by senior
Courtney Poole (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester), including two on goal. Goalkeepers
Sidney Encarnacion (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) and
Becca May (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) combined to make eight saves, five by May in the second half.
Kelsey Kolojejchick put the Tar Heels up 1-0 at the 2:43 mark. Samantha Travers at 6:55 and Katie Plyler at 13:02 pushed UNC's advantage to 3-0.
Following the third goal, Radford earned a penalty corner, but senior
Ellie Staples' (Newport News, Va./Menchville) shot was saved. The Highlander defense did buckle down, limiting the Tar Heels to just two shots the rest of the half.
An early second half goal, and three more in the final 16 minutes capped off the game's scoring.
Radford returns home and begins a three-game homestand with Limestone on Saturday at 3 p.m.
