NINETY-SIX, S.C. – Sophomore
Paige Reese (South Hill, Va./Park View) carded a four-over 76 and Radford women's golf won by 20 strokes in a dual competition with Presbyterian Sunday afternoon.
The 18-hole tournament was played on a 6,130-yard, par-72 layout at The Patriot Club, the same course that the Big South Championship has been played on since 2007 and will again be held at this year.
“I thought we played fairly well today considering the windy conditions,” commented head coach
Jeff Beeler. “It was a great day to gain experience and an extra competitive round heading into our next tournament.
Collectively, the Highlanders shot a 310 (+22) while Presbyterian tallied a 330 (+40). Reese's performance led the Highlander field, with
Jade Okamoto (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) recording a 77 (+5) and
Alex Austin (Burke, Va./Robinson Secondary) finishing up at six-over 78.
Kirsty Condon (Lincolnshire, England/Kesteven and Sleaford) shot a 79,
Amy McCollum (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) finished the day with an 81 and
Sophia Montenegro (Oakton, Va./James Madison) rounded out the Highlander scores with an 82.
Radford will be back on the links when it competes in the Spider Invitational Oct. 10-11 at Independence Golf Club.
