RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore
Sidney Encarnacion (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) made seven saves and Radford held a 5-1 advantage in corners, but in the end the Highlanders were edged at Richmond, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon from Crenshaw Field.
The lone goal of the match came off the stick of Spiders' (12-6) Katelin Peterson in the 20th minute. Two of Radford's (7-10) corners in the first half sandwiched Peterson's score, but both shot attempts were saved by Anna Zarkoski.
The Highlanders sent five more shots Zarkoski's way in the second half, but the three on goal were swept away. Zarkoski finished with five saves to earn the shutout.
The Spiders outshot the Highlanders, 15-8. Seniors
Marlee Schramm (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and
Ellie Staples (Newport News, Va./Menchville), along with freshman
Sydney Myrdal (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) each recorded two shots for Radford.
The Highlanders wrap up the regular season with a key NorPac East matchup at Davidson on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.
