FIELD HOCKEY BLANKS LIMESTONE, 2-0

BOX SCORE

RADFORD, Va. –
Radford Field Hockey scored a goal in each half and held Limestone to just one shot and zero corners as it picked up a 2-0 win, Saturday afternoon from RU Hockey field.

Seniors Melissa Register (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) and Madonna Wadolowski (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahan) struck for the Highlanders (6-7) as they posted their first shutout of the season against the Saints (6-3).

Radford outshot Limestone, 22-1 and earned all 20 penalty corners in the contest.

The Highlanders controlled much of the play in the first half as it recorded 17 shots and 17 corners. A goal from Register at 13:18 gave them a 1-0 lead after 35 minutes of play.

Outside of Register's tally, Radford was unable to solve Limestone keeper Lindsay Hinton. Hinson made 12 saves and another shot was stopped by corner defender Rachel Goromonzi. She would finish the match with 14 saves.

Register's strike, her team-leading sixth of the season, came after she received a long through ball from classmate Marlee Schramm (Mantua, N.J./West Deptford) and one-timed it to the far post for the first goal of the match.

Wadolowski doubled Radford's lead to 2-0  1:58 into the second half when she ripped a shot from the right that deflected off the keeper and a defender's foot.

Limestone had a late scoring chance when Goromonzi broke free ahead of the Radford defense, but her breakaway attempt was stymied by freshman keeper Becca May (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional), who had entered with 10 minutes left in the match.

Senior Courtney Poole (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) ripped off a match-best six shots with Register adding four.

Radford continues at home next weekend, beginning with Davidson on Friday at 7 p.m.
