RADFORD BASEBALL SLAMS ARMY, 18-8

DAVIDSON, N.C.
Cory Turner's (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) two-run double fueled a six-run sixth inning, and Jeff Kemp added a grand slam in the seventh to lead Radford to a 18-8 non-conference baseball win over Army on Saturday night.

Turner went 3-for-3 and scored twice for the Highlanders (2-0), including a fifth-inning RBI double.

Kemp, a 2009 Freshman All-America selection who missed most of 2010 with an injury, hit his second homer in as many days in the seventh and the third grand slam of his career to pad Radford's lead.  Kemp was perfect as well, going 3-for-3.

Brett Mollenhauer added 4 RBIs in a 2-for-3 effort.  He scored twice and walked twice.

Radford right-handed starter Mark Peterson didn't figure in the decision, but went five innings and allowed just a run on three hits, striking out five in his Highlander debut.  Cassidy McDaniel earned the win (1-0) for the Highlanders.

Army starter Chris Rowley fanned five in five innings as well, allowing two runs on four hits.  Colin Briant allowed seven runs in an inning of work and was charged with the loss (0-1).

Clint Moore and Brent Peterson knocked in a pair of runs each for Army (0-2).

The Highlanders finish their opening weekend on Sunday afternoon against Davidson at 1 p.m.
