ORLANDO, Fla. – Despite falling to Florida Atlantic early Friday morning, the Radford women's tennis team defeated No. 22 nationally ranked Division II power, NOVA Southeastern, 5-2, on day one of its “Spring Break” trip.

In the first match, Florida Atlantic came out strong sweeping the doubles portion to take the lead, 1-0. The Owls continued with the momentum as they claimed five of the six singles matches to take the win, 6-1.

Senior Ivana Tomaic recorded the lone win for Radford on court three.

The Highlanders bounced back later in the afternoon against NOVA Southeastern, as they won two of the three doubles matches to take the lead, 1-0.

NOVA Southeastern responded with two straight-set wins at the six and five spots to take the lead 2-1 early in singles competition.

Radford went ahead claiming the next three victories to secure the win.

On court four in the final match of the contest, senior Mirna Matic recorded her first victory of the season as she battled with Paige Lindsley, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-6, to make the final score, 5-2.

The Highlanders will conclude their “Spring Break” trip Saturday against North Dakota at 11 a.m.
