Kelley and Snooks Combine on Two-Hit Shutout Against Georgetown

BOTETOURT, Va. – Radford defeated Ball State, 4-3 and Georgetown, 6-0 on day two of the Radford Invitational at the Botetourt Sports Complex, Saturday afternoon.

The Highlanders (17-10) used a four-run fourth and survived a late-inning rally to edge the Cardinals (14-11), in its first game of day two. Against the Hoyas (5-19), seniors Chelsea Kelley and Kellie Snooks combined on a two-hit shutout and Nichole Beall knocked in three runs.

The four-run fourth was highlighted by a two-run double by Meredith Moore. Her shot over the leftfielder's head made it a 3-0 contest. Radford also scored on a throwing error and a squeeze.

Ball State cut Radford's lead in half with a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the fifth. RBI singles by Lisa Rozanski and Alicia Barkley put the Cardinal's on the board.

The Cardinals added a run on four straight singles in the sixth. Snooks got out of the bases load jam with a force out at home, a ball back to the box and a ground out to first ending the game.

Snooks earned her first save of the season with two inning of shutout relief. Stephanie Dameron started and went 4.2 innings. She improved to 7-2 as she allowed two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Audrey Workman went the distance for the Cardinals, surrendering seven hits, striking out three and walking four.

Beall picked up two of Radford's seven hits and reached base in all four plate appearances as she drew two free passes. She finished 4-for-5 in the two contests.

Ball State recorded 11 hits with Taylor Rager leading the way with a 3-for-3 performance. Ronzanski and Jennifer Gilbert contributed with two hits apiece.

In the Georgetown contest, Kelley went the first five innings and allowed just second inning bloop single. She struck out one and walked one. Snooks cleaned up surrendering a single in the sixth.

Hannah Ojeda tripled with one out in the first and scored when Beall's ball of the end of the bat was misplayed by the pitcher.

Beall, who was 2-for-3 with three RBI, knocked in Radford's second run with a double to the leftcenter gap. Kristen Shifflett scored on the play after she reached on a throwing error to start the third.

Beall came through again with a two-out, two-run single in the fourth pushing Radford's lead to 5-0. An RBI infield single by Lauren Williams plated the first run of the inning.

Radford closes out play of its tournament at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Delaware.
