BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team held off George Mason, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon in the Burrows/Burleson Tennis Center on Virginia Tech's campus.

With the win the Highlanders improve to 4-9 overall, while the Patriots fall to 10-7.

Radford came out with the early lead after taking two of the three doubles matches to secure the 1-0 advantage.

After Mirna Matic and Ivana Tomaic captured the first match, 8-4, at the No. 2 spot, George Mason fired back with an 8-5 win on court one to tie the doubles portion. Court three battled back and forth before Emerald Lauzon and Sara Tegner recorded their third victory as a duo over Alison Wingo and Ekater Desiatnikova, 8-6.

In singles competition, Petra Dajevic recorded the first win for the Highlanders at the top spot making the score 2-0. Shortly after, Brooke Blackwell defeated Matic on court four to put the Patriots on the board, 2-1.

After Ashley Delaney defeated Tegner on court five to tie the match, Mia Drobnjak put Radford ahead when she topped Lindsay Gray, 6-0, 7-5 on court two.

The Patriots followed with a win at the six position when Yasmin Fotovat beat Lauzon, 7-6 (6), 6-1.

With the match tied 3-3, Tomaic secured the win with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 decision over Alison Wingo on the No. 3 spot.

The Highlanders will return to the court for a league match against Presbyterian at 1 p.m. at the RU Tennis Courts.
