RADFORD, Va. – Head women's golf coach
Jeff Beeler announced Wednesday afternoon the 2011-12 fall and spring schedule. The Highlanders are confident in improving upon seven Top-10 performances and an event championship at Winthrop a year ago.
“This schedule is going to present quite the challenge,” said Beeler. “As we've improved over the years, we're starting to get noticed and are getting invited to a few larger events. In order for the program to take the next step, it's important to challenge ourselves at a higher level.”
The fall season begins full swing Sept. 10-11 when the Highlanders take part in the Bison Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. One week after, Radford returns to the Great Smokies Intercollegiate Sept. 19-20 in Waynesville, N.C., where in 2010, it fired a school record and tournament-low 285 (-3) in the final round en route to setting a new 36-hole team record (586).
October will see two events, the first in Richmond, Va. for the Spider Invitational (10-11) and the second in Charleston, S.C. at the CSU Wendy's Invitational (17-18).
Radford returns for the spring campaign Feb. 26-28 when it competes in the Edwin Watts Kiawah's Island Invite in Kiawah, S.C. During the last weekend of spring break, the Highlanders will venture to Jacksonville, Fla. and compete in the JMU Eagle Landing Invite Mar. 9-11.
The C&F Bank Intercollegiate, Mar. 18-20, and Low Country Intercollegiate, Mar. 25-26 round out the regular season before contending for the 2012 Big South Women's Golf Championship Apr. 9-11, held at The Patriot Club in Greenwood, S.C.
“I'm excited about the group of girls returning and our incoming freshman. We have a great mix of youth and experienced veterans. The six girls on this year's roster have a strong desire to continue the journey we started three years ago.”
