WOMEN’S GOLF TIED FOR FIFTH AFTER SHORTENED DAY AT BUCKNELL

ROUND 1 RESULTS

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Led by senior Jade Okamoto (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina), Radford women's golf currently sits tied for fifth after a shortened first day of play at the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday.

The tournament is being played on the par-70, 5,863-yard layout at the Bucknell University Golf Club.  Due to severe weather, play was shortened to 27 holes today and teams will play the final 27 holes Monday morning with an 8:30 a.m. tee time.

As a team, the Highlanders (310, +30) are just six strokes back of the leader, Rutgers.  Individually, Okamoto is in third place out of 80 participants after carding a two-over 72 and is two shots back of Ann Colligan and Kortnie Maxoutopouli, who are leading with an even-par 70.

Okamoto's back-nine 32 was the lowest nine-hole total of anybody participating in the competition.

In her first collegiate event, freshman Alexandra Austin (Burke, Va./Robinson Secondary) recorded a 78 (+8) and is tied for 22nd.  One stroke behind her was Kirsty Condon (Lincolnshire, England/Kesteven and Sleaford) in 30th after her first-round 79.

“I'm very pleased with the first round. We started off a little rusty, which is expected after a long break from competition, but the girls settled down midway through the round and played well,” commented fourth-year head coach Jeff Beeler.  “We're looking forward to the final 27 holes tomorrow.  It's always fun when you're in contention.”
