WOMEN’S GOLF CARDS 54-HOLE SCHOOL RECORD, OKAMOTO RUNNER-UP

FINAL RESULTS

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Jade Okamoto (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) posted a runner-up finish, freshman Alexandra Austin (Burke, Va./Robinson Secondary) also finished in the top-10 and Radford women's golf shot a school-record 919 to highlight the conclusion of the Bison Invitational Monday afternoon.

As a team, the Highlanders carded the lowest 54-hole total in program history with a 919, finishing fifth of 15 teams.  The previous low came in 2010 at the Big South Championship when the foursome totaled 929.  Radford was just 13 strokes behind the team champion and host Bucknell.

Tied for third after the first round, Okamoto (72-73-73=218) carded a 73 in the final two rounds to jump one spot and finish runner-up at eight-over, just four strokes behind the individual leader Kortnie Maxoutopouli of Rutgers.

In her first collegiate competition, Austin (78-73-72=223) sprung 16 positions up the leaderboard to finish sixth with a 13-over 223 performance.

“Jade played really outstanding golf and I'm thrilled she got runner-up and for Alexandra to play as good as she did in her first tournament was really impressive,” commented fourth-year head coach Jeff Beeler.”

In a tie for 35th place were teammates Paige Reese (South Hill, Va./Park View) and Kirsty Condon (Lincolnshire, England/Kesteven and Sleaford), who each shot a 239.

“I'm pleased with our overall performance and our 54-hole score.  We used to be satisfied with rounds of 310, but now we're looking to take the next step forward to where we're consistently at 300 or lower. I feel we played like the team we're capable of being in the last round.”
