FIELD HOCKEY EDGED IN OVERTIME AT JAMES MADISON

BOX SCORE

HARRISONBURG, Va. –
Radford field hockey dropped an overtime affair, 2-1, at James Madison on Tuesday evening from the JMU Field Hockey Complex.

Sidney Encarnacion (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) made a career-high eight saves and Melissa Register (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) tallied the Highlanders' (4-2) lone score.

After the teams traded goals four minutes apart early in the second half, they would go into overtime where Ysaline Nobels found the cage on JMU's first shot, 2:12 into the extra session giving the Dukes (2-3) the victory.

Register tied the contest in the 40th minute on a scramble in front of the JMU cage. Her third goal of the season came just 3:56 after the Dukes' Courtney Versfeld gave JMU a 1-0 lead 45 seconds into the second stanza.

Neither team found the cage the rest of the half as Encarnacion and JMU's Margo Savage made five and four saves over the final 30 minutes.

In a scoreless first half, JMU held a 9-4 advantage in shots. Encarnacion and Savage each made three saves.

Register and senior Marlee Schramm (Mantua, N.J./West Deptford) led Radford with three shots apiece.

Radford heads east this weekend for a pair of contests at Rider on Saturday and at Villanova on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled for 1 p.m.
