VILLANOVA PULLS AWAY FROM HIGHLANDERS IN SECOND HALF

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Radford scored 1:13 into the contest, but Villanova tallied three unanswered goals to defeat the Highlanders (4-4), 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
 
Senior Lynsey Daughtrey (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) found the back of the cage on Radford's first corner and shot of the game. Classmate Melissa Register (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) assisted on the early score.

The Wildcats' tied it in the 22nd minute on a goal by Jessica Swoboda.
 
Swoboda put Villanova ahead for good finding paydirt in the 41st minute and then the Wildcats added another score in the 59th minute to give them a two-goal cushion.
 
Sandwiching the two second half scores, Radford had a pair of flurries during corners. In the 52nd and 53rd minute, the Highlanders earned two corners and ripped off four shots, but Megan Goelz made three saves preserving the one-goal lead.
 
Towards the end of the contest, Radford had chance to make it a one-goal game, but three shots during a span of a minute were all blocked.
 
The Highlanders ended up with a significant advantage in corners (13-6), but were edged in shots, 15-14.
 
Becca May (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) made five saves for the Highlanders, while senior Marlee Schramm (Mantua, N.J./West Deptford) led them with five shots.
 
After eight road games to open the season, Radford will make its 2011 home debut on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. It will also mark the Highlanders NorPac opener as they host the Mountaineers of Appalachian State.
