REGISTER NETS TWO AS FIELD HOCKEY TOPS APPALACHIAN STATE, 3-2

Madonna Wadolowski Become Program's All-Time Assists Leader

Box Score

BOONE, N.C. --
Senior Melissa Register (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper) tallied two goals and senior Madonna Wadolowski (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) became Radford's all-time assist leader as the Highlanders (5-6, 1-2 NorPac East) earned a key 3-2 road win over Appalachian State, Friday evening from Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Register's second tally of the night early in the second half gave Radford the lead for good as the Highlanders snapped a five-game slide.

Wadolowski surpassed Sue Neal's (1983-86) 25-year old mark with a first half helper and 23rd of her career and added another on Register's go-ahead score.

Register's first score, 8:17 into the match, came from in close after Wadolowski found her in front.

The Mountaineers (1-8, 1-1) tied it in the 30th when Brooklyn Shearer converted a penalty stroke.

Coming out the lockerroom, Register struck quickly in the second half, tipping in a centering feed from Wadolowski to put Radford ahead for good at 45:22. It moved her into a tie for the team lead with five goals.

However, it would be senior Lynsey Daughtrey's (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) tally to make it 3-1 in the 58th minute the difference, as the Mountaineers scored on the final play of the game to make it the final one-goal margin.

Radford doubled up ASU on shots, 18-9, 11-3 in the second half, and held an 11-4 advantage in corners. Register charted a game-high seven shots for the Highlanders.

Radford travels to Chapel Hill on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest at No. 2 North Carolina.
