FIELD HOCKEY TOPPED AT NO. 25 WAKE FOREST

BOX SCORE WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Radford field hockey was defeated on the road by No. 25 Wake Forest, 4-0, Wednesday evening from Kentner Stadium.

After the Demon Deacons (7-8) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third-minute on a goal by Taylor Rhea, the Highlanders had two opportunities to get right back into the match as they earned back-to-back penalty corners in the 11th minute

However, freshman Jana Bayer's shot was stopped by Demon Deacon keeper Kaitlyn Ruhf, and the ensuing corner went without an attempt on goal.

Wake Forest extended its lead to 3-0 on pair of scores two minutes apart in the 22nd and 24th minute and took that advantage into the break. They would add one with just over 11 minutes to go to cap of the evening's scoring.

Junior Sidney Encarnacion made five saves and freshman Jillian Lates collected one save in goal for the Highlanders. Freshman Stacey Mackintosh recorded a defensive save as well.

Radford returns to RU Hockey Field on Sunday, Oct. 21 to host Appalachian State in its 2012 home finale at 1:00 p.m.
