FIELD HOCKEY SET FOR NORPAC CHAMPIONSHIPS; TAKE ON NO. 14 STANFORD, THURSDAY

Radford Field Hockey is headed to Farmville, Va. and Longwood University for the 2012 NorPac Conference Championships. The Highlanders are the fourth seed in the East and will face off against the West's top seed and 14th-ranked Stanford at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Athletics Complex.

A LOOK AT RU: The Highlanders enter the tournament after a very competitive conference season…Despite the two wins, five of Radford's six league defeats came by one goal, including three in overtime… Stacey Mackintosh leads the Highlanders with eight goals and 17 points, the highest total for an RU freshman since Kerstin Braun tallied 15 goals and 41 points in 1991… Classmates Jana Bayer and Marianna Parker have three goals apiece… Ashton Cox has four assists… Defensively, Alayna Versage is second in the NorPac with six defensive saves… Keeper Sidney Encarnacion is ranked first in the league with 146 saves and third with 7.68 saves per game.


A LOOK AT STANFORD: The Cardinal (12-6) claimed the West Division with a perfect 6-0 mark for the second consecutive season… It also marks their fourth straight division title… Stanford has been nationally ranked between 11th and 16th all season… The Cardinal have faced the No. 1 team on three occasions and a total of seven Top-25 teams in 2012 with wins over then-No. 10 Iowa and then-No. 18 Drexel… Becky Dru paces the Cardinal offensively and defensively… The senior back is deadly on corners, leading the league with eight assists and being ranked seventh in goals (9) and points (26)… Dulcie Davies ranks second in the league with a 1.58 GAA and is tied for a league-best four shutouts.

LAST MEETING / SERIES: Stanford owns an 8-2 lead in the all-time series after defeating the Highlanders, 2-0, on Sept. 22 in Chapel Hill, N.C…. Radford is 1-4 against Stanford in the NorPac tournament… The teams have met twice in the first round with the Cardinal taking a 2-1 win in 2001 and a 1-0 overtime victory in 2004… Stanford won the last tournament meeting, 3-0, in the 2007 semifinals... Radford's only tournament win over Stanford was a 3-0 triumph in the 2005 third-place match.
 
TOURNAMENT: The Highlanders are 14-13 since joining the NorPac in 2001 and are 6-5 in first round matches and have never been the four seed in crossover divisional play.
