DROBNJAK AND DOUBLES PLAY LIFT WOMEN’S TENNIS OVER APPALACHIAN STATE, 4-3

BLACKSBURG, Va. – With the dual tied 3-3, Mia Drobnjak recorded a three-set win at the No. 3 singles position to lift Radford over Appalachian State, 4-3, in non-conference women's tennis action at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon.

The Highlanders, who have won three straight improve to 4-2, while the Mountaineers fall to 3-3.

After Gabriela Celi forced a third and decisive set with a 6-4 win in the second, Drobnjak battled back with a 6-3 win in the final set to secure the victory.

In addition to Drobnjak's clinching point, the Highlanders claimed two of the three doubles matches to grab the early 1-0 advantage.

Shortly after the freshman duo of Hannah Crawford and Meg Napolitano defeated Gisela Fernandez and Gabriela Celi, 9-7, Petra Dajevic and Gemma Valls secured the difference-maker with a 9-8 (5) win on court three.

In singles, the Highlanders also got victories from Crawford (6-0, 7-6 (5)) and Newman (7-5, 7-6 (3)) at positions two and five, respectively.

The Mountaineers' points came from Ellie Linsell, Jessica Thaggard and Kim-Lea Dinh.

Radford (4-2) will enjoy a week break before returning to the courts Saturday for its conference opener at Presbyterian.
