OKAMOTO LEADS RADFORD IN FIRST ROUND OF C&F BANK INTERCOLLEGIATE

RESULTS

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Jade Okamoto is currently tied for sixth place and led all Radford players in the first day of women's golf action in the C&F Bank Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon from Kingsmill River Course.

Okamoto began her day with a birdie on the par-4 first.  After giving two shots back on the front nine, she got back to even par by way of a birdie on 10.  Okamoto stood at four-over after 15 holes and recorded three pars to conclude the first 18 holes of competition.  Furthermore, she sits in sixth place in a field of 110 players.

Only four strokes separate Okamoto (+4) from the individual leader, Kameron Carter (E) from Longwood, who won this tournament in 2010.

Collectively, Radford totaled 319 (+35) in the four-player team score and are presently tied for ninth – just five strokes out of fifth place.

Alexandra Austin and Paige Reese each carded seven-over 78 days.   Each player shot three-over on the front nine and four-over on the back to finish the first round in a tie for 19th place.

Reese joined Okamoto with two birdies on the day, one on 7 and the other coming on 17.  Reese was also second in the tournament with a one-under on par-5 scoring.

The 54-hole event is being held this year at Kingsmill Resort, on the famed River Course designed by Peter Dye.  The River Course hosted the Michelob Championship on the PGA Tour from 1968-2002 and the LPGA Michelob Ultra Open from 2003-2009.  This fall, the LPGA will return to Williamsburg for the Kingsmill Championship.

The course is setup as a 6,907-yard, par-71 championship layout.  There are 21 teams entered in the tournament.

Second round action gets underway tomorrow morning.
