RADFORD, Va. -- Radford Softball plays a pair of single games this week, including its Big South opener, a rematch of last year's league championship game at Liberty on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
After their matchup with the Lady Flames (6-12), the Highlanders (12-8) will step out of conference and host Appalachian State (12-10) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Highlanders are coming off a four-game sweep of Lehigh and Binghamton after they hosted the Radford Invitational last weekend. After a 3-0 win over the Mountain Hawks in its home opener, Radford won three straight one-run games to complete the sweep.
In the four contests, the Highlanders upended the Mountain Hawks, 3-0 and 4-3 and defeated the Bearcats, 6-5 and 1-0.
Jackie Jenkins earned a pair of complete game victories against Lehigh, including a five-hit shutout in Radford's home opener. In the 4-3 triumph, Vicki Maddenwas 3-for-3. Emily Norton tossed a one-hit shutout and Jessie Hutchens registered a two-out RBI single in the sixth to upend Binghamton on Saturday. A day earlier, Radford held off a 7th inning Bearcat rally for the 6-5 win.
For her work, Jenkins was named the tourney's MVP, while Madden, Norton and Ryndee Ruch were selected the all-tournament squad.
The Highlanders and Lady Flames meet up for the first time since the 2011 Big South Championship game won by Liberty, 3-1 at Winthrop's Terry Field. Last year the teams split the series with Radford taking one in Lynchburg during the regular season.
