OKAMOTO POSTS SECOND TOP-3 SHOWING OF SEASON AT C&F BANK INTERCOLLEGIATE

RESULTS

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Jade Okamoto capped a solid tournament with a final-round 75 and recorded her second Top-3 showing this year to guide the Radford women's golf team in the finale of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon.

Okamoto shot three consecutive rounds of 75 to tally 225 (+12) in the 54-hole event.  She dropped four birdies, two apiece in the first and second rounds to lead the Highlanders.  She tied for third place, which stood as her best finish since her runner-up showing in the season-opener.

Okamoto was in contention all tournament and finished just four strokes shy of the individual medalist, Kameron Carter of Longwood.  Carter became the first player to win the event on two occasions (2010).

As a whole, Radford (319-318-308) handed in a 945 and shot 308 in the final round.  The tally tied for the lowest team round of the spring and was the fifth lowest round this year.  The Highlanders finished 9th out of 21 teams.

“Jade was really solid all week and its nice to have her back playing well,” stated head coach Jeff Beeler.  “We took another step forward and I still feel we're way ahead of schedule for the spring.  It's nice to see some low numbers and we are making strides heading for the championship.”

Joining Okamoto with a four-over 75 in the final round was Alexandra Austin.  Austin (78-80-75, 233), who leads all freshmen and is fourth in the league in stroke average, opened her day with two straight birdies on the par-4 first and par-3 second.  She went six-over the rest of the way and moved up 10 positions to tie for 18th overall in a field of 110 players.

Paige Reese and Amy McCollum each carded eight-over 79 rounds to finalize their respective 54-hole scores.  Reese (T39) recorded Radford's third score and tied her season-high for the second straight tournament with a 238.  McCollum's 79 stood as her second-best round this year and she finished at 255.

Kirsty Condon shot one stroke under McCollum with a 254.

The tournament was held at Kingsmill Resort, on the famed River Course designed by Peter Dye and featured a 6,907-yard, par-71 championship layout.

The Highlanders have a short four-day break before competing in the Low Country Intercollegiate March 25-26.  The event will take place on the Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.  It will be the last tune-up before the Big South Championship on Apr. 9-11.
