WOMEN’S GOLF FINISHES RUNNER-UP AT LOW COUNTRY INTERCOLLEGIATE

FINAL RESULTS

RADFORD, Va. – With the event's lowest round, the Radford women's golf team took home a runner-up showing and freshman Alexandra Austin finished third on the individual leaderboard Monday afternoon in the conclusion of the Low Country Intercollegiate.

Radford (316-307) combined to shoot a 307, the tournament's lowest 18-hole score, and finished runner-up out of 15 teams with a final tally of 623.  The second-place performance was the highest since Radford won the Winthrop Fall Tournament in October 2010.  Furthermore, it was also the third lowest round for Radford this year.

Appalachian State held off Radford's surge to claim the team title with a slim two-stroke advantage.  The Highlanders improved nine swings from yesterday's total.

Austin handed in a one-over 73 in the final round and shot 11 positions up the leaderboard to finish tied for third.  The 73 matched her spring season low and her finish became a new career-best, bettering her fifth-place showing at the Spider Invitational in the fall.

“In golf, the only thing you can control is the process and how well you play,” stated head coach Jeff Beeler.  “It is one of the few sports where you can't control your opponent.  I thought we did what we needed to do today by shooting the tournament's lowest round.  We are definitely peaking at the right time heading into conference in two weeks.”

Reigning Big South Women's Golfer of the Week Jade Okamoto carded a 77 and finished at 156 (+12).  Kirsty Condon recorded Radford's second-best round today at four-over 76 and joined Okamoto in a tie for 13th place in a field of 73 participants.

Paige Reese wrapped up her tournament tied for 22nd with a 159.  She carded rounds of 78 and 81, respectively.

For the second straight day, Amy McCollum penciled in an 81 and finished tied for 32nd.

Radford competed on a par-72, 5,853-yard layout on the Moss Creek South Course.

The Low Country Intercollegiate was the last tune-up before the Big South Championship on Apr. 9-11.  The Highlanders will have a 13-day break to prepare for the season finale.
