LIBERTY HOLDS OFF WOMEN’S TENNIS, 4-3

RADFORD, Va. – The doubles point proved to be the difference as Liberty ended Radford's six-match winning streak with a 4-3 victory in Big South women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.

The Highlanders, who are now 5-3 in one-point matches this spring, fall to 12-5 overall and 2-3 in the league, while the Flames improve to 8-10 and 2-3.

Liberty claimed the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. The Highlanders lone doubles win came from the freshmen duo of Hannah Crawford and Meg Napolitano.

The Flames extended their lead to 3-0 with two-set wins at positions five and one, respectively.

Freshman Gemma Valls put the first point on the board for the Highlanders with a straight-set win at the No. 4 singles position. With her triumph, Valls improved to 13-4 on the spring.

After Brittany Yang forced a third and decisive set, Radford's Mia Drobnjak won the third to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Like Yang, Cameron Richard battled back from a set down, but unlike her teammate, she finished off the comeback and clinched the match with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 decision over Crawford on court two.

With the match already decided, Radford's Napolitano won her 10^th straight and moved to a team-best 15-2 thanks to a three-set win at the final position.

In addition to three singles contests going the distance, this afternoon's dual lasted nearly four hours.

Radford returns to the courts Thursday with a 2:30 p.m. dual at in-state foe Longwood.
