SOFTBALL SPLITS AT CAMPBELL, WINS GAME TWO, 10-2

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Senior Michelle Beall and junior Morgan Eye homered in a six-run sixth as Radford Softball took game two, 10-2, and earned a split at Campbell in Big South action, Friday from Eakes Athletics Complex. The Camels (17-17, 2-1 Big South) won game one, 8-4.
 
The Highlanders (17-9, 4-1) broke open a 4-2 game with the six-run sixth in which all the runs were unearned as a two-out error kept the inning alive. Following Campbell's sixth miscue of the game, Eye stepped up a laced her first collegiate long ball over the leftfield fence for a 6-2 advantage. After an RBI double by Micalah Sacre, Beall launched a three-run blast to dead center extending their lead to 10-2.
 
Beall finished 2-for-4 with a triple, home run, four RBI and two runs scored. Sacre was also 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Eye went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a sac bunt.
 
Junior Jackie Jenkins tossed a six-inning complete game to improve to 7-2. She scattered four hits and allowed an earned run.
 
Beall provided both Radford runs to give it an early 2-0 lead in the first. She put the Highlanders on the board with an RBI triple to right and then scored on a wild pitch. Both were unearned as an error started the frame. Nichole Beall, who came home on the triple, scored three runs in the contest.
 
Three more Camel errors and an RBI single by Sacre helped Radford double its lead in the second to 4-0.
 
Raven Lee cut the Highlanders' margin in half with a two-run home run, her second of the doubleheader, off the leftfield foul pole in the fifth.

Lee finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored for the Camels. Julia Callicutt started and took the loss. She totaled 2.1 innings and allowed four unearned runs on two hits with a pair of strikeout and two walks. Christina Melton provided 3.2 innings of relief in which all six runs she allowed were unearned. She scattered four hits walked and punched out three.

Campbell scored five runs in the fifth, highlighted by Lee's grand slam, to break a 3-3 tie and defeat Radford, 8-4 in game one. The loss snapped the Highlanders' eight-game winning streak.

Christina Melton gave Campbell a 1-0 lead in the second with a two-out solo home run to center. The Camels added to the lead on a two-run long ball in the fourth by Kailey Farmer.
 
Radford, aided by several Campbell miscues, evened the score without a hit in the fifth. The Camels committed three errors, two which led to two runs, hit two batters, one with the bases juiced, walked one and allowed a runner to reach after a strikeout on a passed ball.
 
The Highlanders had a chance to take the lead, but Brittany Arnn came in and ended a one-out bases load threat, inducing a shallow fly ball and ground out back to the box.
 
The Camels quickly regained their lead on an RBI single by Sarah Forgacs in bottom half of the frame, followed by Lee's grand slam giving them an 8-3 cushion after five innings.
 
Nichole Beall closed out the scoring with her team-best seventh long ball of the season to lead off the seventh.
 
Arnn earned the win in relief of Olivia Scarborough. She tossed the final 2.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits with two strikeouts. Jones recorded two of Campbell's seven hits.

Sacre suffered the defeat after surrendering four runs on three hits, two of which were home runs. She fanned six and walked two. Five different Highlanders recorded a hit.

The series wraps up tomorrow with a single game at 2 p.m.
