EAGLE ON 18 PUTS REESE IN TOP-5 HEADING INTO FINAL ROUND OF CHAMPIONSHIP

RESULTS

GREENWOOD, S.C. –
An eagle on the par-5 18th showcased a two-over round by Radford's Paige Reese and put her in the Top-5 on the second day of the Big South Women's Golf Championship Tuesday afternoon.

Reese dropped a birdie on the par-4 sixth and par-5 13th to go four-over through 17.  On her last hole, Reese became one of three players thus far to record an eagle, which allowed her to drop back down to two-over 74.  She leads all Radford competitors and is currently tied for fifth, just seven swings back of the leader from Coastal Carolina.

Reese's 74 tied a season-low, the two-day total of 150 bettered her season-best by five strokes and furthermore the sophomore is on pace for a career-best 54-hole score.

Among top Radford finishers in the conference championship, only one player (Stephanie George) recorded a lower second-round score than Reese's 74.  George shot 73 over the second round in 2001 and went on to claim medalist honors.

In the team standings, Radford secured fifth place with a second day total of 314.  The Highlanders will head into the final round of 2012 with a two-day tally of 624.  A 304 or better tomorrow would break the school-record mark (929, 2010) for a 54-hole score at the conference championship.

“Today was the opposite of yesterday.  We had a solid outward 9 and then the winds picked up,” stated head coach Jeff Beeler.  “It was tough on the back 9 because the wind was swirling, then it would pick up and let down.”

Birdies on No. 7 and 17 highlighted Jade Okamoto's second round, as she penciled in Radford's second score at six-over 78.  Okamoto (153, T9th) remains in the Top-10 with one round left in her collegiate career.

Kirsty Condon and Alexandra Austin also figured into the four-player team total.  Each player shot nine-over 81 on the day.  Condon is in 31st place, while Austin finds herself in 35th.

Amy McCollum sank birdies on holes 1, 7 and 8, but finished the day at 82.

“We have a great round in us and hopefully it will come tomorrow.  Regardless, this team leaves it all on the course.”

Final round action gets underway tomorrow.  Full coverage of the last round can be found at golfstat.com.
