CHRISTIAN, RATTERREE SMASH PR’S ON FIRST DAY OF BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

RESULTS

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Radford women's track and field squad is currently fifth after four events scored and Kayla Christian and Caroline Ratterree each shattered personal-bests on the first day of the Big South Outdoor Championships Thursday.
 
Ratterree stopped the 10000m clock at a personal-best 37:34.33 to earn a fifth-place showing.  She bettered her previous time by over 53 seconds and was the third fastest in program history.
 
Christian also crushed her previous PR and earned two points for her long jump distance of 5.62m / 18-05.25.  She beat her previous best by 0.19m and brought back seventh place.  Her distance also stood as the seventh best leap in program history.
 
Three-time hammer throw champion Aimee Veatch turned in a fourth-place showing in this year's event.  She recorded a 51.80m / 169-11 mark and scored five team points.
 
The women currently total 11 points and are in fifth after four events scored.
 
The following is a breakdown of other notable Highlander finishes:
 
With a toss of 48.87m / 160-04, freshman Brian Uthe placed 12th in the men's hammer throw.
 
Chris Henry leaped to a 6.79m / 22-03.50 distance in the men's long jump and took home 11th place.  In addition, he finished third in his flight.
 
Sam Keltner clocked a 33:11.47 in the 10000m, while Ryan Farnan finished just behind Keltner's pace in 33:35.96
 
The women's shot put event will kick off the Radford action tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
