DEAN CAPTURES 300TH VICTORY; SOFTBALL COMPLETES SWEEP

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Junior Jackie Jenkins tossed a four-hit shutout and skipper Mickey Dean captured his 300th coaching victory as Radford completed a series sweep at Winthrop with a 5-0 win on Sunday afternoon from Terry Field.
 
Jenkins scattered four hits, all singles, and walked two (one intentional) as she improved to 13-6 on the season. It was her third shutout of Winthrop in her last four starts against the Eagles (15-33, 3-15) as she has allowed just one run over the last 28 innnings.
 
Dean reached the 300 win plateau in just 414 contests with 235 coming at the helm of the Highlanders (28-14, 12-3).

Radford took advantage of some early wildness to grab a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI single by freshman Micalah Sacre. Senior Hannah Ojeda scored on the play after reaching on a wild pitch after striking out. She would steal second and move to third on a passed ball on a walk.

Sacre finished 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored.

Four straight one-out singles pushed Radford's advantage to 3-0 in the third with senior Michelle Beall and freshman Frankie Martinez each picking up a RBI.
 
Junior Morgan Eye tacked on two more for the Highlanders, lacing a two-run triple just inside the rightfield line in the sixth. The first collegiate three-bagger for Eye extended Radford's lead to 5-0. She finished the contest with a pair of hits.

With four more stolen bases this afternoon, Radford surpassed the 100 theft total (101) for the fifth time in six seasons. 

Radford returns home on Tuesday for 7 p.m. contest against Virginia Tech.
