FIELD HOCKEY ANNOUNCES INCOMING CLASS

RADFORD, Va. – Radford Field Hockey head coach Jeff Woods announced the addition of seven prep athletes on Monday. Katelyn Adkins (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial), Emily Hoke (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial), Jillian Lates (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan), Jessi Lykens (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley), Stacey Mackintosh (Crofton, Md./South River), Marianna Parker (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) and Heidi Pomposini (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) will join the program this fall as part of the class of 2016.

Katelyn Adkins (Forward)

Adkins' File: Helped First Colonial to a 2011 Group AAA State Championship… Posted 22 goals and 11 assists during her final two seasons… 2011 Second Team All-Beach District... Coach's Award… Teammate of fellow signee Emily Hoke.
 
Woods on Adkins: “We lost a lot of experience up front and Katelyn is going to bring some speed and scoring ability to our forward line.”
 
Emily Hoke (5'7” – Midfielder/Back)

Hoke's File: Honorable Mention All-Tidewater… Keyed First Colonial to a 2011 Group AAA State Championship… Two-year team captain… Coach's Award… Teammate of fellow signee Katelyn Adkins… Also lettered in swimming… Member of the National Honors, English, Math and German (President) Honor Societies… Brickell Scholar… Radford Presidential Scholar recipient… Plans to enroll in the College of Education and Human Development and major in exercise, sport and health education with a minor in biology.

Woods on Adkins: “Emily has gained a lot of valuable experience with FC and her club team and we think she is going to be a tough left side defender who might eventually be able to step into the midfield.”
 
Jillian Lates (5'3” – Goalkeeper)

Lates' File: Peninsula District Player of the Year… Two-time first-team all-district and 2011 first-team all-region… 2011 team captain and MVP under the direction of former Highlander Natalie Bowen (2004-07)… Lettered in lacrosse and named squad's defensive MVP… Member of the National and Latin Honor Societies… Plans to enroll in the College of Science and Technology and major in biology (pre-med).
 
Woods on Lates: “Bean” has shown steady improvement in goal recently and we like how aggressive she can be and the way she communicates.”

Jessi Lykens (5'4” – Back)

Lykens' File: Two-time all-state selection… Four-year starter for the Panthers… Garnered all-county and all-division honors… 2011 Team MVP and captain… Berks Division III All-Star… Participated in the 2011 senior all-star game… Selected to the National All-Academic squad… District qualifier in the javelin and discus… Participated in the senior all-star basketball game… President of the National Honors Society… 2010-11 Student of the Year… Radford Dean's Scholar… Plans to enroll in the College of Education and Human Development and major in recreation, parks and tourism and minor in Chinese.

Woods on Lykens: “Jessi is a well-rounded student-athlete who has grown up with the game. She is a good distributor and defender who brings a lot of skill and passion to the field.”

Stacey Mackintosh (5'7” – Midfielder/Back)

Mackintosh's File: First-Team Washington Post and Baltimore Sun All-Met selection the past two seasons… Four-year member of the Seahawks… Earned numerous first-team honors as a junior and senior… Named player to watch by the Post and Sun… Scored game-winning goal in 2011 District V Championship game… Also lettered in lacrosse, tennis and dive… Helped the Seahawks to a 4A state championship in lacrosse… Member of the National Honors Society… Scholar-Athlete… Plans to enroll in the College of Education and Human Development and major in exercise, sport and health education (sports medicine).

Woods on Mackintosh: “Stacey is a solid playmaker who can take over the game, and she may play mid, back or forward for us.  We are hopeful that Stacey will be able to step in right away”
 
Marianna Parker (5'6” – Forward)

Parker's File: Garnered first-team all-state, all-region and all-district honors in 2011… A Second-Team All-Tidewater selection and 2011 team MVP… Earned all-district distinction as a sophomore and junior… District MVP and multiple all-state and all-region performer in gymnastics… Also pole vaulted for track and field team.

Woods on Parker: “Marianna is another tough competitor from the Beach District.  We really like Marianna's athleticism and nose for the goal!”
 
Heidi Pomposini (5'7” – Goalkeeper)

Pomposini's File: First-Team All-Tidewater, All-Eastern Region and All-Beach District as a senior… Recorded eight shutouts and a .880 save percentage in 2011… Selected to the all-state second team as a senior… Also a catcher for the Ocean Lakes softball team… Member of the National Honors Society.

Woods on Pomposini: “Although she has only been playing hockey for a few years, Heidi has quickly adjusted to the game and gained a lot of respect and experience in goal at Ocean Lakes.”
