5-RUN FIFTH LEADS CAMPBELL OVER BASEBALL, 6-3

BOX SCORE BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell scored five runs in the fifth inning and Michael Felton went 4-for-5 to lead the Camels to a 6-3 win over Radford in the opener of a Big South series on Friday night.

Brett Mollenhauer went 2-for-3, scored a run and drew a walk for the Highlanders (26-22-1, 11-8 Big South) – he played in his 208th career game, matching the school record.   Mollenhauer extended his hitting streak to 12 games and has reached base in 23 straight games.

Ryan Burgess drove in a pair of runs and Daniel Wright added a 2-for-4 effort for Radford.

The Fighting Camels (36-15, 11-8) had 13 hits, paced by Felton's four – he stole a pair of bases and was one of six Campbell players with an RBI.  David Olson and Ben Fish had two hits each.

Right-handed starter Matt Sergey worked into the eighth inning to earn his seventh win (7-0).  Sergey allowed three runs (two earned) and retired the first nine batters of the game consecutively.

Radford got to Sergey and the Camels in the fourth inning when Mollenhauer's bunt single with Josh Gardiner on at second put runners at the corners for Burgess, who drove a fly ball to right to put the Highlanders on the board.

After Brent Graham reached on a wild strike three in the bottom of the fifth and moved into scoring position on Jimmy Brenneman's sacrifice and then third on Brent McQuown's single, the Camels had run-scoring hits on the next five plays to chase Eddie Butler from the game.

Butler went five innings, allowing a season-high five runs on 10 hits to take the loss (5-4).

Burgess knocked in a run in the eighth to narrow the Campbell lead to 5-3, but Brenneman tripled to start the bottom of the eighth before McQuown's fly to center knocked him in to extend the lead back to three runs.

Ryan Mattes pitched two scoreless innings for his seventh save.

The series wraps up with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
