CAMPBELL SCORES LATE, WINS 6-4 OVER BASEBALL IN FIRST DOUBLEHEADER GAME

BOX SCORE BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Two eighth-inning runs for Campbell lifted the Camels to a 6-4 win over Radford in the first doubleheader game on Saturday.

Josh Gardiner went 3-for-5 to lead the Highlanders (26-23-1, 11-9 Big South).  Brett Mollenhauer extended his hit streak to 13 games with a 2-for-4 game – Mollenhauer played in his school-record 209th game.  Zach Costello went 2-for-4.

Michael Felton, David Olson and Ben Fish had two hits each for the Fighting Camels (37-15, 12-8).

A pair of errors at short with two outs in the eighth inning led to both eighth inning runs for Campbell.

Campbell scored first - Jake Kirkland's sacrifice fly with one out brought in the first run for the Camels in the fourth, but two hits and a hit batter loaded the bases, and Erick Gaylord and Brent Graham walked on back-to-back plays to bring home two more runs and make it 3-0.

Radford countered in the top of the fifth – Carl Travers and Gardiner singled, and Mollenhauer walked to load the bases.  Costello's sacrifice fly and a Ryan Burgess single brought home a pair of runs to make it 3-2.

After another bases-loaded walk for the Camels in the sixth made it 4-2, the Highlanders got two of their own in the top of the seventh inning – Patrick Marshall was hit with the bases loaded, then Phil Bondi walked on the next play to tie the game at 4-4.

Radford loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth inning, but Ryan Mattes escaped the jam to earn his eighth save and second in as many days.  Andrew Jacobson was the winner in relief (6-0).

Jason Patten, who worked the final two innings, took the loss (2-4).
