RADFORD, Va. -- Radford field hockey has pair of key league matches this weekend, hosting Davidson on Friday (7:00) and then heading to Boone, N.C. on Sunday (1:00) for a matchup with Appalachian State.
A LOOK AT RU: The Highlanders dropped a 2-0 decision to then-No. 11 Stanford on Saturday. Despite a 10-save performance from
Sidney Encarnacion, the Cardinal scored in each half with the second tally coming in the 60th minute to double their advantage... Encarnacion has put forth four double-digit save performances and recorded 49 saves over the last four contests... For her efforts against Stanford, Encarnacion was named NorPac East Defensive Player of the Week.
A LOOK AT DC: The Wildcats dropped a 6-0 decision at home to No. 2 North Carolina on Tuesday... DC won its league-opener at Appalachian State, 5-3 behind a hat trick from Lucy Pidcock... Finley Amato paces the Wildcats with five goals and 10 points, while Melissa Funsten has dished out a team-best four assists and is tied with Amato with 10 points... Sarah Fisher has played the majority of the minutes in goal, charting 56 saves and a 2.80 GAA.
A LOOK AT ASU: The Mountaineers will be looking to snap a four-match slide when they host the Highlanders… ASU dropped a 5-3 decision at home to Davidson in its league opener… Four different players have netted three goals this season with Caroline Phillips added two assists for a team-high eight points… Jessi Stuart has recorded a team-best three helpers… Sarah Anderson has played all but 25 minutes with 79 saves and a 5.01 GAA.
LAST SEASON / SERIES: Radford split with both squads last season. Radford topped Davidson, 5-3, while the Wildcats edged the Highlanders, 2-1 in the regular season finale. Against the Mountaineers, each team took home a 3-2 road win.
Radford owns a 26-12-2 all-time record against Davidson and 34-11 against Appalachian State. The Wildcats have won three of the last four contests, while the Highlanders have split with the Mountaineers the last two seasons.
