HIGHLANDERS EDGED IN OVERTIME, 3-2

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. – Radford field hockey dropped another hard fought contest as it fell, 3-2 in overtime to NorPac rival Davidson on Friday evening from RU Hockey Field. Finley Amato's second goal of the match clinched the win for the Wildcats (4-6, 2-0 NorPac East) with just 1:29 left in the first extra session.

Freshmen Stacey Mackintosh and Jana Bayer each scored their second goals of the season for the Highlanders (0-8, 0-2).

In the overtime session, the Highlanders had a golden opportunity to win the contest early, but Mackintosh's shot, which was heading in, was inadvertently blocked by a teammate and scooted wide. Just minutes later, Sidney Encarnacion stymied a point blank attempt by the Wildcats on a 2v1 counter attack.

Amato ended the contest when she took a slip across the goalmouth from Annie Evans and deposited it in the open cage. Evan assisted on both of Amato's strikes.

Mackintosh put the Highlanders on the board in the 27th minute when she blasted one in over the keeper on a direct corner. Junior Alayna Versage and sophomore Amy Kinkler assisted on the strike.

The Wildcats evened the score twice in the final 13 minutes and sent the game into overtime when Melissa Funsten scored on a rebound just 2:15 left on the clock. During a corner, she poked home a loose ball after Amato's initial shot was turned aside.

Amato knotted the match at 1-1 when she took a slip from Annie Evans and found paydirt to the far post in the 58th minute.

However, Bayer struck just 12 second later allowing Radford to regain the lead. After gathering the ball at the 25, she dribbled in from the right and sent a rocket past the keeper for a 2-1 advantage.

Encarnacion made five saves for Radford, while her counterpart Sarah Fisher stopped seven shots. Mackintosh paced the Highlanders with six shots. Amato generated a match-best seven shots.

Radford hits the road on Sunday for another league match, heading to Appalachian State for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
