MACKINTOSH'S GOLDEN GOAL LIFTS FIELD HOCKEY OVER MOUNTAINEERS

BOX SCORE BOONE, N.C. – Freshman Stacey Mackintosh scored her second goal of the match with 2:21 left in the second overtime to give Radford field hockey a come-from-behind, 3-2 win at Appalachian State in a NorPac match on Sunday afternoon from Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Mackintosh banged home a rebound during a scramble that was set up by classmate Marianna Parker, who's initial shot popped up off the keeper right to Mackintosh. It gave the Highlanders (1-8, 1-2 NorPac East) their first win of the season in Radford's third consecutive league overtime contest.

Parker and Mackintosh scored two minutes apart early in the second half to erase a 2-0 deficit. Mackintosh now leads the squad with four goals after her three-goal weekend.

Appalachian State (2-8, 0-2) jumped on top 2-0 in the first 6:01 on goals by Dana Wetmore and Jessi Stuart and took that lead into the half. After the slow start, the Highlanders finally put some pressure on the ASU defense in the final 15 minutes. However, Mountaineer keeper Sarah Anderson stopped all three attempts on goal and a couple of other offense flurries were snuffed out ASU defenders. She finished the match with five saves.

The Highlanders carried that momentum into the second half as Mackintosh and Parker struck early and evened the contest just 6:33 into the stanza. Mackintosh (40') ripped one in near post on a corner and then Parker scored her first collegiate goal two minutes later, poking home a cross from sophomore Ashton Cox. Junior Alayna Versage assisted on the first strike for her second helper of the season.

After to the two ASU scores, junior Sidney Encarnacion made four saves the rest of the way. Sophomore Jordan Vrhovac also prevented an ASU goal with a defensive save during a second half corner.

Radford steps out of conference play next weekend taking a trip to Philadelphia for a pair on contests against Temple on Saturday and Penn on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
