DAY ONE COMES TO A CLOSE FOR WOMEN’S TENNIS AT ITA ATLANTIC REGIONAL

COMPLETE DRAWS

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
After Friday's opening round of action, Taylor Newman of Radford women's tennis is still alive at the ITA Atlantic Regional hosted by the University of Virginia at its Snyder Tennis Center.

The day got off to a promising start as Gemma Valls recorded a straight-set (6-2, 6-3) triumph over Virginia Tech's Tea Ivanovic in the singles qualifying draw. In the next round, the junior met Liberty's Mariely Hassey where her run in the tournament ended (6-3, 6-0).

In the afternoon, Valls was back in action as she teamed with Newman to face Ingrid Vojcinakova and Marijana Novakovic of Old Dominion in the main draw's round of 64 for doubles. Despite leading 4-3 early in the match, the Highlanders were unable to stop their opposition as ODU's tandem prevailed, 8-4.

Newman gets her turn to play singles when she takes the court at 1 p.m. Saturday against George Washington's Lana Robins. The winner advances to the round of 32 and will battle the victor between Raluca Mita of Virginia Tech and Erin Snook of Navy.
