HIGHLANDERS BLANK MOUNTAINEERS AND CLINCH SPOT IN NORPAC TOURNAMENT

BOX SCORE

BOONE, N.C. – On a frigid evening in the mountains of North Carolina, Radford scored a goal in each half as it clinched a spot in the 2013 NorPac Tournament with a 2-0 conference road win at Appalachian State.

Sophomores Stacey Mackintosh and Marianna Parker provided the offense and the defense held the Mountaineers to just one shot on goal as the Highlanders (5-12) improved to 3-3 in NorPac East play.

Just 2:20 into the contest, Macintosh hammered one home on Radford's first corner of the match to give the Highlanders an early 1-0 lead. Senior Alyana Versage was credited with the assist on the injection.

Despite outshooting the Mountaineers (2-14, 1-5 NorPac) 7-2 in the first half, the Highlanders only shot on goal was Mackintosh's strike and they took the 1-0 advantage into the break.

Holding on to the one-goal advantage, Parker drove in from the right and capitalized in the 61st minute to give her squad a two-goal cushion. Parker's team-leading seventh goal of the season gave the Highlanders some breathing room with just under 10 minutes to play.

Senior Sidney Encarnacion earned her first shutout of the season, making one save early in the second half as the defense in front of her blocked several shots on the night.

The Highlanders outshot the Mountaineers, 14-7 led by Mackintosh and junior Jennifer Hedrick with three apiece. Sarah Anderson made four saves for Appalachian State.

Radford closes out its weekend trip to North Carolina with a Sunday contest at Davidson set for 1:00 p.m.
