HIGHLANDERS EDGED AT VCU, 2-1

BOX SCORE

RICHMOND, Va. – Radford grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the second half lead on sophomore Marianna Parker's  goal, but VCU rallied and scored the game-winner with just over 12 minutes remaining to edge the Highlanders, 2-1 on Friday evening from Cary Street Field.

Senior keeper Sidney Encarnacion had another solid game in net. She registered 10 saves, five in each half, to keep her Highlanders (3-8) within striking distance. It was her third double figure save game of the season.

Following a scoreless first half, Parker gave Radford a 1-0 lead just 31 seconds into the second stanza when she tipped in junior Sydney Myrdal's feed into the circle just as the second period got under way. It was her team-leading fourth score of the season.

However, the lead did not last long. The Rams (5-6) converted on a corner 3:21 later when Kendell Combs evened the score on a direct shot from the top of the circle. In the 58th minute, Emilie Soares tallied the game-winner when she tipped in Nicola Breeman's centering feed into the circle.

Parker paced Radford with two shots. Combs charted a game-high six shots and VCU keeper Megan Botteri made four saves.

Radford returns home on Sunday for a contest against Robert Morris at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's match will be the Highlanders' Pink Game as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
