AUSTIN’S THIRD-PLACE SHOWING GUIDES WOMEN’S GOLF AT BIG SOUTH PREVIEW

ROUND 1

 

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Junior Alexandra Austin fired a 1-over-par 73 to place third in leading the Radford women's golf team at Saturday's Big South Preview held at The Patriot Golf Club (par 72, 6,142 yards).
 
Behind three scores in the 70s, the Highlanders fired a 310 to finish 11 shots behind Campbell. The Camels won the event with their 299. Tying for second at 309 were Gardner-Webb and High Point, one shot clear of RU.
 
Hayley Hammond tied for 10th at 4-over-par 76, while Kirsty Condon finished 14th at 7-over-par 79. Paige Reese and Olivia Jay tied for 19th at 82.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs' Pilar Morgan produced the lone sub-par round at the championship site, carding a 1-under-par 71. In second place was Margaret Suchan, who competed as an individual for High Point and finished at even-par 72.
 
Saturday's 18-hole competition served as a chance for conference golfers to compete at the host site of the 2014 Big South Women's Golf Championship.
 
The Highlanders now head east to Mt. Pleasant, S.C. for the CSU Wendy's Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern. Play begins Monday morning with a shotgun start consisting of 36 holes. The tournament winner will be crowned Tuesday after the final 18 holes. Scoring can be tracked live via Golfstat by following the link here.
