EVENING CHARGE LIFTS WOMEN’S GOLF INTO TIE FOR FOURTH

ROUNDS 1-2

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Behind two sub-par rounds, the Radford women's golf team rebounded from a 320 in Monday's morning round to fire a season-best, 2-over-par 290 in the evening as day one action concluded at the CSU Wendy's Invitational hosted by the Buccaneers at Rivertowne Country Club (par 72, 6,011 yards).

After battling heavy rain in the morning, Radford hit its stride in the evening as all five golfers shot 78 or better. The Highlanders' 290 was only five strokes off the school record of 285 (-3) shot at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate in 2010.

Hayley Hammond leads the RU contingent as she improved 10 shots from her opening 18 holes to return a 150 (80-70) to the clubhouse. She is tied for 14th. Matching her teammate in red figures Monday evening was Alexandra Austin, who equaled her career-best round of 3-under-par 69. The junior is tied for 19th at 153 (84-69).

Kirsty Condon and Olivia Jay were steady throughout their 36 holes as they were the only Highlanders to stay in the 70s. Condon is tied for 25th at 154 (79-75) and Jay is tied for 27th at 155 (77-78). Paige Reese knocked nine strokes off her morning round to tie for 48th at 161 (85-76).

42nd-ranked College of Charleston captured an 11-shot advantage heading into Tuesday's final round as the Cougars carded a 1-over-par 577 (290-287). Coastal Carolina is second at 588 (298-290) and Wofford is third at 609 (312-297). One stroke behind the Terriers is Radford and tournament host Charleston Southern. Tennessee Tech (612), Richmond (614), Presbyterian College (627), USC Upstate (633) and College of Charleston "B" (637) round out the top 10.

CofC's Laura Fuenfstueck finished both rounds in red figures en route to a 5-under-par 139 (68-71). She leads the Chanticleers' Lena Schaeffner (142) and Emee Herbert (144).

The Highlanders will strive to break their 54-hole school record they set earlier this season when they return to the course Tuesday morning for the final round. Radford's mark to beat is 912 (+60). Scoring can be tracked live via Golfstat by following the link here.
