WOMEN’S GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH AT CSU WENDY’S INVITATIONAL

ROUND 3

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Low scores were hard to come by in Tuesday's final round of the CSU Wendy's Invitational as swirling winds and rain added difficulty to the par 72, 6,011-yard Rivertowne Country Club. Despite the elements, the Radford women's golf team recorded its fifth top-10 showing of the season by finishing seventh in the 13-team field.

On a day when the lowest score was a 2-over-par 74 and no team shot below a 300, the College of Charleston's overnight lead held up. The Cougars closed with a 13-over-par 877 (290-287-300) to win the team title by 13 shots over Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers finished at 890 (298-290-302).

Tournament host Charleston Southern and Wofford tied for third at 920, while Tennessee Tech rounded out the top five at 926 (314-298-314). Richmond was sixth at 929 (314-300-315), four shots clear of the Highlanders' 933 (320-290-323).

In the individual race, CofC's Laura Fuenfstueck turned in a 1-under-par 215 (68-71-76) to edge Coastal Carolina's Lena Schaeffner by three strokes.

Alexandra Austin was the top finisher for RU, tying for 18th at 230 (84-69-77). Hayley Hammond was one shot behind at 231 (80-70-81) to tie for 21st. Kirsty Condon and Olivia Jay tied for 32nd at 237, while Paige Reese tied for 55th at 247 (85-76-86).

In just under one week, the Highlanders will be back on the links as they travel to the F&M Bank Intercollegiate hosted by Austin Peay at Clarksville Country Club in Clarksville, Tenn.
