HIGHLANDERS DEFEATED ON THE ROAD BY JAMES MADISON

BOX SCORE

RADFORD, Va. – Radford field hockey was defeated on the road at James Madison, 6-0, on Wednesday evening. The Highlanders trailed just 1-0 at the half, but the Dukes scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half to pull away and earn the victory.

Senior keeper Sidney Encarnacion made nine saves in the defeat. Sophomore Stacey Mackintosh led the Highlanders (4-9) with two shots, while junior Ashton Cox and sophomore Marianna Parker added a shot apiece.

The Dukes (7-6) got on the board in the 10th minute when Taylor West scored on a direct corner. The Highlanders had their chances to get even before the break, but Stephanie Tarafas stopped all three shots on goal to keep the Dukes up a goal going into the break.

West doubled JMU's lead with her second goal on a penalty corner, which started a three-goal surge over the next 7:31, giving the Dukes a 4-0 lead. They tacked on two more in the final three minutes to close out the scoring.

Radford returns home on Saturday, Oct. 12 for its final home game of the season hosting Liberty at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the contest, the Highlanders will recognized their two seniors, Encarnacion and Alayna Versage.
