LIBERTY TOPS RADFORD IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE, 3-0

BOX SCORE

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Radford held Liberty's league-best offense off the board for 38 minutes, but the red-hot Lady Flames (14-4, 8-0 NorPac East) scored three second-half goals to defeat the Highlanders in the regular season finale for both squads on Saturday afternoon at LU Field Hockey Field.

The Highlanders (5-14, 3-5) currently hold a game lead over Davidson for third place in the division, but will have to wait until tomorrow to know their final seed. Radford will finish third with a Wildcat loss to Longwood and tied for third if Davidson wins. However, the Wildcats would have the tiebreaker for the third seed.

The first half saw regular season champion Liberty earn all six corners and take all five shots, but Radford was able to block a few attempts and not allow a shot on goal.

However, the Lady Flames connected on their first corner of the second half as Helen Doolittle scored on a direct shot from the top of the circle, 3:21 into the period.

After junior Sydney Myrdal had two game-tying opportunities denied, Liberty doubled its lead on a strike from Bethany Barr off the insert from Ashlee Krulock. The Lady Flames closed out the scoring when Natalie Barr found paydirt in the 63rd minute.

Myrdal charted all three shots for the Highlanders. Sidney Encarnacion made three saves in 62:07 of action. Liberty's Ann Jefferis stopped both of Myrdal's attempts on goal to earn the shutout and help the Lady Flames win their ninth straight.
