BREDIGER PLACES THIRD TO LEAD MEN’S GOLF AT WENDY’S KIAWAH CLASSIC

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Freshman Nick Brediger finished third while Radford men's golf posted a seventh-place showing following Tuesday's final round of the Wendy's Kiawah Classic played at Kiawah Island Resort's Turtle Point Golf Course (par 72, 7,061 yards).

33^rd-ranked South Carolina posted a wire-to-wire victory on the Jack Nicklaus-designed layout. The Gamecocks completed their 54 holes at even-par 864 (283-286-295), 22 shots ahead of Marquette's 886 (292-296-298). Winthrop was third at 887, followed by Missouri (888), Presbyterian College (890) and Charleston Southern (891).

The Highlanders' 895 (291-305-299) was four clear of USC Upstate. Big Ten rivals Wisconsin (902) and Minnesota (904) rounded out the top 10.

Nick Nelson of Marquette hoisted the individual title behind his 6-under-par 210 (70-67-73). South Carolina's Matthew NeSmith was two shots behind at 4-under-par 212 (75-69-68).

Brediger, who carded eight birdies throughout the tournament, pieced together his best 54-hole ledger of the season by finishing at 1-under-par 215 (69-73-73). It was also the best finish by a Highlander this season.

Tanner Carbaugh tied for 21^st at 223 (71-79-73). After recording a triple-bogey at the par-4 first hole, the junior rallied behind four birdies to tie Brediger for the best round by an RU golfer in the final round.

Ryan Rettberg logged a 230 (73-79-78) to tie for 54^th, while Conner Hayden charted a 234 (78-81-75) to tie for 67^th. Callum Tarren shot a 237 (82-74-81) to tie for 76^th.

In Radford's five fall events, the Highlanders never finished outside the top eight. RU had five individual top-10 performances, highlighted by Brediger's impressive showing.

Radford has a 291.5 scoring average entering the spring season, which begins at Francis Marion's Wexford Intercollegiate, Feb. 17-18.
