HIGHLANDERS POST FIVE VICTORIES ON DAY 2 OF LIBERTY KICKOFF

LYNCHBURG, Va.
– The second day of the Liberty Kickoff was a success for both track and field squads as the Highlanders registered five victories and posted more personal bests in their season-opening meet on Thursday afternoon.
 
Picking up season-opening wins were junior Vincent Wyatt (8.08) and senior Courtni Pannell (8.78) in the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Steven Graham in the 400, freshman Anthony Aviles in the high jump and the men's 4x400 relay squad.
 
Pannell and Wyatt posted 8.78 and 8.08 seconds, respectively. The duo also received silver medals in the 200 meter dash. Graham cruised around the track with a time of 50.41 defeating classmate Trey Pressley by .89 seconds.
 
The 4x400 team consisting Presley, sophomore Alhaji Bah, sophomore Cory Dunn and Joseph Betts rolled into first with a time of 3:25.57. Bett's also broke his personal record in the 60 meter dash by 0.02 seconds (6.95) turning in second-place finish.
 
Aviles took the high jump title with a leap of 2.04 meters (6-08.25) and was followed by fellow rookie Kenneth Jordan who turned mark of 1.84 meters (6-00.50). 
 
Dunn sliced through his previous long jump record to mark at 6.61 meters (21-08.25). He also received second in triple jump with a leap of 13.38 meters (43-10.75).
 
The ladies powered through their blocks in the 60 meter dash as seniors Kiki Crews (7.80) and Kaleice Green (8.05) had a 2-3 placement.
 
The women's jumps pulled added two second-place leaps as freshman Katy Harriman posted 1.50 meters (4-11.00) in the high jump, and Green (5.38/17-08.00) in long jump.
 
Rounding out runner-up finishes were decathlete Phillip Hovatter with 4551.00 points and senior Amber Church in the 60 meter hurdles (8.91).
 
Radford will be back in action at the Virginia Tech Invitational on January 17.
