ELITE FIELD AWAITS WOMEN’S GOLF AT EDWIN WATTS / KIAWAH ISLAND CLASSIC

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Radford women's golf team gets its spring slate underway Sunday-Tuesday at the prestigious Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Classic held at the resort's Oak Point (par 72, 5,907 yards) and Cougar Point (par 72, 6,001 yards) golf courses and hosted by the College of Charleston.
 
In addition to the Highlanders and the Cougars, Bucknell, Campbell, Central Arkansas, Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Daytona State, Elon, Farleigh Dickinson, Florida Gulf Coast, High Point, IUPUI, Jacksonville State, Longwood, Loyola-Chicago, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, Newberry, North Florida, UNC Greensboro, Oral Roberts, Presbyterian College, Richmond, Samford, St. John's, Stephen F. Austin, Tennessee Tech, Towson, Troy, Western Kentucky, Winthrop and Wofford make up the 33-team field.
 
In all, four squads will be ranked in the top-100 according to Golfstat entering Sunday's first round—No. 36 Campbell, No. 77 Elon, No. 84 College of Charleston and No. 92 Samford.
 
Hayley Hammond will play at No. 1 for Radford. The redshirt junior finished second on the team with a 77.3 stroke average (19th-best in Big South) in the fall. Her top performance came at the Highlander Invitational where Hammond tied for sixth at 5-over-par.
 
Paige Reese will start in the second group and carries the third-best average on the team at 79.6 through five tournaments. Radford's scoring average leader at 77.1 is Alexandra Austin, who will play in the third slot this week. With two top-5 showings to her credit, Austin is 17th in the Big South's player rankings.
 
Playing in fourth and fifth will be Kirsty Condon and Katie Parrott, respectively. Condon's top finish came at the season-opening Bison Intercollegiate where the junior tied for 17th. Parrott's best showing came at the Highlander Invitational where the freshman tied for 23rd.
