SOFTBALL FALLS TO IOWA ON FINAL DAY OF MIKEN MARYLAND INVITATIONAL

BOX SCORE COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Radford was defeated by Iowa, 10-0, on the final day of the Miken Maryland Invitational.
 
The Hawkeyes (16-6) scored four runs in each of the first two innings and the Highlanders could not recover. Freshmen Becky Mantel, Emily Naegele and Casey Burns recorded singles for Radford.
 
Iowa used a two-run single by Megan Blank and a two-run home run by Kaya Massey to grab the early 4-0 lead. The Hawkeyes doubled their lead with four unearned runs in the second thanks to two errors and three RBI singles.
 
Senior Jackie Jenkins started and went 1.2 innings, allowing eight runs, four earned, on six hits. Freshman Rachael Walters finished the final 3.1 innings striking out two, surrendering two runs and six hits.
 
Chelsea Lyon earned the complete game win for the Hawkeyes. She scattered three hits, struck out two and hit a batter.
 
Johnnie Dowling recorded three hits, while Blank, Holly Hoffman and Massey drove in three runs apiece.
 
Radford returns to action on Friday for the USF Under Armour Invitational where it will face Quinnipiac at 1:15 p.m.
