VIDEO RECAP OF GAME 2: RADFORD ROLLS PAST IONA AT HOME

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 RADFORD, Va. - Radford put together its most dominating performances of the season in back-to-back games Tuesday at RU Baseball Stadium The Highlanders swept a pair of games from Iona, 12-1 and 10-1, respectively, to move to 8-7 overall and 3-2 at home heading into Big South Conference play this weekend.

Game 1 - RU 12, Iona 1
Radford scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and were only held scoreless in the second and fourth innings as the Highlanders enjoyed their highest run total of the season.

Jeff Kemp was 2-3 with a triple, an RBI, and a pair of runs scored to lead four players with a multi-hit game. Hunter Higgerson (2-3, 1 RBI, 1 run), Chris Coia (2-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs, 1 double), and Shane Johnsonbaugh (2-4, 1 RBI, 1 run) also collected more than one base hit. The Highlanders finished with 12 hits with three for extra bases. Josh Gardiner added a double. Alexander Lee drove in a game-high three runs going 1-3 at the plate.

Mitchell MacKeith worked 4.2 innings in his first start and gave up an earned run on five hits. James Woods (1-0) recorded the final out of the fifth inning and earned the victory in relief. Ryan Meisinger and Nygeal Andrews each logged 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.

Carmine Palummo (2-4) and Joe Torres (2-5) each had a couple hits for the Gaels. Mariano Rivera (0-2) took the loss after giving up seven runs, five earned, in 4.0 innings.

Game 2 - RU 10, Iona 1
The nightcap was nearly a repeat of game one. The Highlanders jumped out 5-0 in the first, and Zach Woolcock drove in four runs with a triple and a double in the game. He finished 2-3 at the plate. Kemp was 1-1 with a double and drove in two runs.

By the end of the third inning, RU had a 10-0 lead and cruised to the victory.

Dylan Nelson (2-1) went 4.0 innings and surrendered just four hits and an earned run. Jeff Maxwell, Daniel Bridgeman, and Michael Costello each worked a shutout inning in relief.

John Nargoski (0-1) didn't make it out of the first inning in his first start of the season for the Gaels and took the loss.

Alexander Lee (2-4, 1 run) and Josh Reavis (2-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) joined Woolcock with multi-hit games.

With the sweep, RU carries momentum into Friday's conference opener with VMI. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at RU Baseball Stadium.
