FORDHAM SLIDES PAST WOMEN’S TENNIS, 4-3

ORLANDO, Fla. – Just a couple hours removed from its victory over Augustana (SD), the Radford women's tennis team returned to the courts for its evening match with Fordham. Despite winning the top-three singles matches, the Highlanders fell to the Rams, 4-3, Wednesday at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.

Fordham (4-5) swept doubles competition to go ahead 1-0. The Rams went on to win the first four singles matches as well, which clinched the dual for the A-10 members.

Radford picked up three victories at the top of the order, however, as Hana Babic, Taylor Newman and Gemma Valls prevailed in their respective battles.

Winning for the third time in her last five outings, Babic picked up a 7-6, 6-1 triumph on court three over Bella Genkina. Newman was the next to finish as she outlasted Sarah Ali (1-6, 7-5 (10-8)) at No. 2 singles. It was Newman's third straight win and fourth out of her previous five matchups.

Valls added the final point of the day for the Highlanders by also going three sets. The sophomore improved to a team-best 7-4 on the season following her 3-6, 6-4 (10-8) decision at the top flight.

After a day off tomorrow, RU returns to the court Friday, March 15 for an 8:30 a.m. tilt with Gonzaga to conclude the Highlanders' spring break trip to the Sunshine State.
