AUSTIN GRABS FIRST ROUND LEAD, RADFORD OPENS FIFTH IN VEGAS

ROUND 1

LAS VEGAS, Nev. –
Sparked by Alexandra Austin's season-best 2-under 70, the Radford women's golf team fired a 309 Thursday in the opening round of the Lady Bison Spring Classic hosted by Bucknell on the par 72, 6,004-yard Snow Mountain course at the Paiute Golf Resort.

Carding her second-straight sub-par round of the year, Austin takes a two-shot lead into Friday's final 18 holes. In second place, individually, is Liliana Cammisa of Nova Southeastern, who posted an even-par 72. Cammisa is the fifth-ranked golfer in Division II women's golf.

In addition to her score, the Sharks had all five golfers in the 70s on day one to record a 296, which is eight shots clear of 67th-ranked Old Dominion (304). NSU, which competes at the Division II level, is a women's golf powerhouse. The Sharks, who
carry a No. 1 national ranking into this tournament, have won four-straight NCAA National Championships.

Southern Utah logged a 306 and is in third place. Southern Illinois returned a 307 to the clubhouse and is in fourth, two shots ahead of the Highlanders.

Behind Austin's red-figure round were Paige Reese and Kirsty Condon, who are tied for 28th at 7-over 79. Hayley Hammond brought in an 81 and is tied for 38th, while Katie Parrott is 66th after shooting an 89.

RU will be gunning for its third top-5 showing of the season when the squad returns to the course Friday morning. The final round is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. (PT) with a shotgun start.
