WOMEN’S TENNIS PREPARES FOR BIG SOUTH CLASHES AT WINTHROP, UNC ASHEVILLE

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team is back in action Sunday and Monday with two road contests against Winthrop and UNC Asheville, respectively.

Winthrop, which is the 15-time Big South Champion and has won seven straight, has a 6-9 mark thus far, including a win over Presbyterian College to begin conference play at 1-0. Of the Eagles' 15 matches, eight have been against nationally-ranked opponents.

In last season's meeting, Taylor Newman recorded a three-set (6-3, 2-6, 6-2) victory at No. 5 singles, but the Highlanders dropped a 6-1 decision to Winthrop at home. RU and the Eagles met again in the semifinals of the 2012 Big South Women's Tennis Tournament, where WU won (4-0).

UNC Asheville is 7-5 on the season and 1-1 in league action. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play Gardner-Webb (March 20) and Charleston Southern (March 24) before hosting the Highlanders. Radford swept the doubles point and all six singles matches last year to claim the 7-0 triumph over UNCA.

The Highlanders conclude their three-match road swing with a visit to Lynchburg, Va. to battle Liberty at 2:00 p.m. on March 27.
