NEWMAN COLLECTS SIXTH STRAIGHT VICTORY AT LIBERTY

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Although sophomore Taylor Newman notched her sixth straight win in singles action, Radford dropped a 6-1 Big South women's tennis match Wednesday afternoon to Liberty at the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts.

The Lady Flames (8-7, 5-2 Big South) claimed the doubles point behind wins at the No. 2 and the No. 3 positions. Gemma Valls and Hana Babic battled admirably at the top spot, but was edged 9-7 in the tiebreaker to give Rebekah Jenkins and Nicola Wellman the 8-7 victory.

In singles, Liberty prevailed on courts three, five and six to clinch the conference clash.

Playing at No. 1 singles for the first time this season, Newman capitalized on the opportunity by downing Cameron Richard in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). The Bethesda, Md. native evens her dual record to 7-7 on the season, including a 2-2 mark in league action.

The Highlanders (3-11, 0-4 Big South) will look to get back on the winning track when they return to the courts Friday, March 29 for their home opener against Presbyterian College. First serve is slated for 2:30 p.m. from the Radford University Tennis Complex.
