RU HITS THE ROAD FOR THE FIRST TIME IN LEAGUE PLAY AT CAMPBELL

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -
Radford visits nationally-ranked Campbell for an important three-game Big South series beginning Friday at Taylor Field. The Highlanders are 2-1 in the league and are playing on the road for the first time this season in conference play. Campbell is 22-3 overall and ranked as high as #27 in the national polls.

First pitch on Friday is set for 5:00 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m.

THE SERIES
♦ Campbell leads the overall series vs. RU, 23-14. Prior to last season's Big South three-game series, the two teams had not played each other since 2001 and 1994 prior to that. The Camels have won five straight in the series, which have all been played on the road.

HIGHLANDER TRENDS
♦ RU is 5-3 on the road this season. RU was 10-17 in true road games last season.
♦ RU set a Big South record last year with a .978 team fielding percentage. Radford's .977 fielding percentage this season currently ranks 18th in the nation.
♦ The Highlanders are 10-2 this season when they score first. RU was 21-10 last year.
Jeff Kemp ranks in the Top 100 among NCAA Div. I players in the following categories: slugging (.708) [23rd]; home runs (5) [34th]; walks (17) [75th]; total bases (51) [78th]; on base (.485) [79th]; triples (2) [t-82nd]; doubles (8) [86th]. Kemp leads the team with five multiple RBI games and has reached base in 14 straight games.
Josh Gardiner is currently on a seven-game hitting streak. Earlier in the season, he owned a season-high nine-game streak. He leads the team with nine multiple hit games. He has reached base in 12 straight games.
♦ The Highlanders are a team-best 5-1 in games started by Michael Boyle.
♦ RU has had the same starter in all 22 games at four different defensive positions (Chris Coia - CF; Jeff Kemp - SS; Josh Gardiner - 2B; Hunter Higgerson - 3B).
Josh Gardiner (leadoff) and Jeff Kemp (3 hole) have started all 22 games in the batting order this season.

AT THE PLATE
Ryan Burgess' four-hit performance against Marshall in the middle game of the series is the only four-hit game for the Highlanders this season.
Josh Reavis (at Jacksonville), Zach Woolcock (vs. Iona), and Ryan Burgess (vs. VMI) are the only Highlanders to drive in four runs in a game this season.
Jeff Kemp scored a season-high three runs vs. Rider. He also is the only Highlander to record two doubles in a single game (vs. VMI). His six total bases at Kennesaw State is also a  single-game season-high for Radford.
Blake Sipe drew three walks in a single game at Kennesaw State.

IN THE FIELD
♦ No individual Highlander has committed more than a single error in any game this season. Radford has committed only 19 errors on the season.
♦ RU has seven errorless games as a team on the season.
♦ With five assists in the last game vs. Marshall, Jeff Kemp recorded his 500th career assist.

ON THE MOUND
Tyler Costello has currently gone 11.2 scoreless innings in his last two starts.
♦ Radford relievers have worked 9.0 straight scoreless innings.
♦ Radford starters have worked 105.1 innings and have a 4.74 ERA as a staff. Combined, the five pitchers that have made starts for the Highlanders (Michael Boyle, Tyler Costello, Keith Fritz, Dylan Nelson, and Mitchell MacKeith) are 8-8 and have walked 41 while striking out 64. The three weekend starters have accounted for seven of the eight wins and 60 of the 64 strikeouts.
♦ The RU bullpen has worked a total of 85.2 innings and owns a 5.25 ERA. Radford relievers have walked 35 batters and struck out 58.

GAME TRENDS
♦ Radford is 10-2 when leading after six innings. The Highlanders are 9-1 when leading after seven innings and also 9-1 when leading after eight innings.

RECORD WATCH
Jeff Kemp is currently tied for second all-time at RU with 11 career triples (14 by Kellen Wohlford, 2002-05). Kemp is tied for the career mark in being hit by pitch (32 with Denny Van Pelt, 1991-94).
Tyler Costello's career ERA of 3.73 ranks him third all-time in Radford history. His opponent batting average of .270 for his career ranks only behind Eddie Butler's .252 mark.
